Looking at different people’s cultures and festivals is a great way to teach children about the world around them. We encourage children to show respect for other people’s beliefs. We will be looking at the Hindu Festival of Light Diwali, Bonfire Night and of course Christmas.

Niton and Brighstone Preschool is a company limited by guarantee, operating over two sites.

We are run by a Board of Directors and although a company, we still retain Charitable Status

At both preschools we believe that each child is valued as an individual member of the group and wider community so that they have a strong self-image and high self-esteem.

We strive to create an atmosphere of fun and friendship between all staff, children and their families. Although we are a Company there is an emphasis on the Pre-school being community run, with a strong feeling of parental involvement and ownership.

There is a fine balance between teaching your child the basics of formal education and allowing them to develop social skills and personal confidence.

Our Staff believe that if we provide a stimulating environment the children will be interested to learn in a natural way. Staff are good role models, who help the children to develop both morally and spiritually.

We have good transitional links to ensure that children move seamlessly into the Primary School of their choice.

THE SCHOOLS

The Pre-school started in Whitwell and moved to Niton primary school grounds in 1994. At that point we became Niton Village Play Group but eventually changed our name to Niton Pre-School. We are now a successful pre-school, run by a Board of Directors.

In June 2013 the pre-school took over the running and administration of Brighstone Play Group. After a major redecoration effort, the Brighstone Preschool is now functioning well and received its first OFSTED report in 2014, which reported the pre-school as 'Good'.

The Board of Directors and Staff aim for the Pre-school to develop its services further, which will enable the Brighstone Pre-School to achieve a higher rating in the coming years.

OUR GOALS

Our Goals:
  1. To encourage children to be happy...
  2. To encourage children to stay healthy, and be confident and inquisitive...
  3. To be interested in life and enthusiastic about the challenges they encounter in their play through the use of the Early Years Foundation Stage Curriculum (2012)...
  4. To provide a safe, secure and stimulating environment...
  5. To work within a framework which ensures equality of opportunity for all children and  families and enable them to make a positive contribution to the community and pre-school environment...
  6. To ensure individual care and attention to be made possible by a high ratio of adults to children...
  7. To provide opportunities for you and your family to be directly involved in the activities of the group and in your own child’s progress...
  8. To provide a 'Key Person' for each child...
Children come from all areas of the Island and although we have a large waiting list, we always try to fit every child in.
